things i wrote down

The following are things I've jotted down on a number of my moleskins in the span of a couple of years.

She's showing me her evil grandma book

My raincoat awaits, and so does my bed.

why didn't i do this everyday?

i've always loved myself (at least as much as i could) but it's different now without you. why?

gradini

New things are so wonderful.
I love to adapt, I love to find a way with new things.
A melody, a space, a season.

I'm currently working on a playlist which I really try to do as often as possible, however I like to wait for the songs to come to me. I can't go searching for new music of songs that work well together. They always come and become part of a current feeling or experience in my life.

I'm feeling happy with how my mind has been wandering recently. Vivid dreams and concrete ideas.

I've been dreaming of Rovinj, Croatia -- my aunt just came back from a weekend there and told me it reminded her of Mykonos! Dita incrociate!

Autumn's Child

Ciao! I honestly haven't had the impulse to sit and write down my thoughts.

It hasn't been an easy couple of months but I don't feel how I felt when I was in the States (which is good).

I've been trying to get inspiration for some drawings and between today and yesterday...I realized
it's been in front of me this entire time.
Hopefully I can share some work soon.

In the midst of learning Italian, preparing portfolio's, processing my residency, and more--

I think I can say that living through the transition from Summer to Fall was my first time ever witnessing a real
change in season.

The street outside my house is covered, entirely, in leaves of various colors.

I get so happy when a leaf falls! It's such an amazing and magical experience.

Swaying trees
and many many bike rides, I'm such a grateful and happy soul.

Tropical-like tunes playing since 8am /

All while sleeplessly embracing what this month holds.

August might have rolled around quickly but I have
been taking in every little thing these past 3 months.

Heading back with a lilac suitcase, and many goodies in
hope to make this place my temporary home for good!

Looking forward is an understatement!

what way

I have very exciting news coming soon //  However, in the mean time I apologize if the blog is looking a bit messy...  These last couple of weeks I've been living at my mums home on the beach. The days are windy with sunsets and moonrises. I took a beach chair and sunk into the sand while the moon rose from the clouds. it was magical.

if you readers want, follow me on snapchat: palepluie
and be sure to re-watch this

Apart from that, enjoy these last days of the month! I'll be packing and drawing.

Tongue (Un)Twisted

Everyday I realize how fascinating the brain is.
It's been almost 3 months (already) since I came to the states
and I haven't been very good with my
"I will continue practicing my Italian on a daily basis" promise -- not good at all.

Although ever so often when I found the opportunity to speak or write I would, especially
messaging with my aunt from Italy / It took to by surprise.

I would find myself seamlessly typing the words out and with the out most joy afterwards caused by the unexpected ability to actually form a sentence.

It may seem insignificant to a native speaker but to me it's a feeling of joy

and reassurance. A very exciting and wonderful feeling!
Ps - My visa is being processed as you read this !
One step closer to * home * once again!

turning time

Fang Tong, Floating, 2013
I spent this past weekend near the ocean.
There were strong winds and I felt happy.

Jenn Smith
I stayed hydrated with some watermelon
slices and my hair was kept in plaits.

I also nibbled on key lime pie and green peppers (separately of course)!

I've been avoiding the rays (as per usual) and

many have lately been telling me that I look "super summer-y"

which is obviously cause of the heat.

Today I moved into my friend Hanna's house...
however she currently doesn't live here.

I'll be house/dog sitting
for a month, haha. It's a bit funny
but I'm enjoying a house to myself cause I
can just do my own things

at my own time without pressure or judging eyes.

I plan on

making this a place

for inspiration and creation.

yaay!

Keep an eye on the month of February -- I'll be updating throughout the weekend.   /////

✱ the most postponed post ever made ✱

Back in January, a day after my 20th birthday, I moved from the States! (At last!)
Although this move has been in the works for years,
I've never actually sat down and wrote about it... and I've been meaning
to do so on here of course but *insert lame excuse here* !

So I've decided that I'll be going back in time (sort of) and posting more about this big move.
I'll be posting some current stuff as well while linking back to the past events, all while always redesigning (or at least the want to do so) and et cetera.

and of course in the meantime I try to stay a bit more in the known through these guys:

primavera mi dà speranza

I'm sorry for going away, sorry to myself really.
I've had a lot going on these last couple of months which I really hope
to share on here very soon.
Primavera, Spring where I currently reside is heavenly.
It's chilly out + there are sun rays that I (and the flowers) have actually been enjoying!
I've been obsessing over the lilacs that droop
from the trees and I'm constantly petting (yes, petting) the hydrangea leaves that have bloomed with anticipation for the full hydrangeas to bloom!

Wishing you all a beautiful Spring and Easter, xx

p.s. go check out the wanderlust section for my trip to Venezuela !

glimmering lights from the puddles

漂亮的石蓮.
I've been lucky enough to find some really lovely people to spend my time with.
They may not know me but that seemed to be the least of their worries.

There was a night where I went out with a couple of them.
I sat in the rear part of a bike, the streets were empty and suddenly...it hit me.
This was where I had been wanting to be all this time.
Looking up and feeling infinite with my surroundings, all while
absorbing one of the most beautiful language and city.

I wanted to cry.

All my hard work, tears and patience was for that very moment.
And I will never forget it.

08 February 2014

lab rat in a pink bathtub

It's been a week since I moved into my apartment (!!)
My entire room is made out of wood and I have tall pine trees outside my window.

We have a bathtub in a pastel blue and off-white little bathroom that I am in love with.

The first night I moved here I forgot to bring thick blankets from my
aunts house and slept wrapped up into a taco freezing cold ha ha.

It's all so different, I'm learning the language & culture while adapting to new routines and humans. I feel like a little lab rat :-( ...but a very happy one at that! :-)*

Being the introverted fool that I am, I found it very difficult to even go to my own kitchen at times. I talked to Hanna (who's back in L.A.) and we shared the same feelings towards being new in a place where others have their own things going on.
It's pretty terrible at first, but once you get over being a big fat chicken and actually step out into the hall...it all gets better with time.

The other day I attempted to make my very own pomodoro (tomato) sauce for my gnocchi's out of fresh pomodoro + a shallot, sugar and salt. It was pretty terrible since I burnt the shallots a bit with the oil.
Either way I felt happy, maybe because I expected it or I just simply added it to my "omg I guess I'm an adult now" list. It's all really frightening but exciting.

Hope you're doing well from wherever you are
xx

Gennaio kisses

The last couple of days of January were a bit hazy. The days were rainy and cold (which if you know me, I love).
I was *trying* to live in almost 3 different time zones.

I was simply enjoying everything about this.

For the rest of January I was living in 'Padova'
(a pretty perf lil town 20 minutes away from Venice) with my small family in their
dreamy apartment in the center of the city.

I was pretty grateful to have them since I had to wait till the beginning of February to move into my place.

Most of my time was spent baking, walking around the city (getting lost), and eating/drinking:

  • Fritelle | A typical Venetian treat made only during Carnival season
  • Pan di Stelle Biscotti | The best cookies ever (with stars)
  • Kinder mini bars (!)
  • Cioccolato caldo | it was like chocolate soup...for the soul, lol.

Convention Center - Art Basel Miami Beach - Part II

Once I step into the Convention Center, my mind goes into a state of solitude (the best one at that). The way the Center is structured is what has made me come back year after year, I think. Walking around in circles and turning into something unexpected is exciting (although, sometimes frustrating since you might of missed a thing or two).

Francesca Pasquali - White straws, 2012
White Italian Monochrome / Tornabuoni Art Paris
One of my main goals is to obviously find some of my personal favorite works.

It's definitely fun to think that you
might bump into celebrities or even the artists themselves
but my eye contact seems to always be focused on...well, the art.

Don't get me wrong, even the attendee's are part of the show & that's what
makes Art Basel such a vibrant event.

Fausto Melotti - Virgulto, 1901-1986
Barbara Mathes Gallery New York

Wolfgang Tillmans
It was my first time spending almost the entire day at the Convention Center.
From opening till I couldn't feel my feet any longer...
I even went out to eat and came back (!!)

Alexander Calder, Huit Rondelles Rouges, 1971
Fausto Melotti - La danza, 1972
Barbara Mathes Gallery New York
Piet Mondrian, Composition II, with Red, 1926

Michelangelo Pistoletto, Black and Light, 1976
Tracey Emin, The Last Great Adventure is you, 2013

Retna, He's A Criminal No Different From Me.
One Could Argue I could Be Painted With The Same Brush, 2013
(this one's for you hans)

Ran into this wonderful crystal doorstop once I left the Center.

Chose to go comfy this year (sans heels, unlike last year)
